Have you ever awakened in a great mood, ready to sell, only to
find that a big account has canceled or is complaining? Would
an event like that reduce the spring in your step and lower
your optimism for the day? If so, you need to realize that
optimism, confidence and expectations are a very big part of
our success in selling each day. Let's take a look at ways to
increase these vital factors to sell more every day no matter
what happens.
Realize The Importance Of Optimism Your
first step in selling more every day is to realize and accept
the power of optimism. If you expect to sell, you are far more
likely to make contacts and to sell. You are on your way to
better sales when you recognize that your mood affects your
sales more than price, the economy, or any other factor.
Switch To Positive Self Talk You may not
realize it, but we all talk to ourselves all day long. "Ooh,
that looks good", "I won;t eat here again", "This prospect is
never gonna buy". There is a lot going on in our heads at all
times. Your sales will increase dramatically if you make an
effort to change all negative self talk into positive self
talk. Make a point every day to count your blessings, think
good things about your company, your products and yourself.
Take time to realize what a wonderful family you have or will
have, what a great country we live in and the tremendous
opportunity we have in selling. Every day, look in the mirror
and say ,"Something good is going to happen to me today". Now,
your subconscious will spend the day looking for that good
thing to happen.
Don't Listen To Nay Sayers
Stay away from news, family members, co-workers and others who
will say negative things. Do not listen to stories about the
economy, the election, kids today etc. If coworkers or family
members continue to talk negatively, explain how bad that is
for people who sell and if they still do not stop, you may have
to distance yourself from them.
Set And Reach Activity Goals
Once you have laid the foundation of optimism that you need, be
sure to have a goal for activities for the day. Before you
begin selling, write down a goal for activities and closing
rates. You might say that you will contact 20 new prospects,
send 50 emails, make 30 calls, do 5 presentations and sell one
today. Don't just focus on sales, focus on all the activities
that will lead to sales and then start accomplishing these
goals. Be sure you write down a specific number for each
activity and have a goal for what percentage of contacts will
result in appointments; as well as what percentage of
appointments will result in sales.
Celebrate Victories As you look at your
day, be sure to celebrate victories. If you met your goals for
emails, or calls, or presentations, be sure to pat yoursef on
the back. Sure you need to honestly look at things you missed
but stay away from negative talk about yourself.
If you nurture the optimistic and focus on activities, you will
sell more and be more successful. You will enjoy it more too
and prevent burn out. Give it a try. It is a little known
secret of top producers.
